Manager of Retail Ireland Skillnet, Sean had 18 years’ experience in Retail management before joining IBEC. Since then  he has pioneered work based Education and Training for the sector. He is responsible for setting up the Retail Education  Framework, from which thousands of retail employees have received formal accreditation through work based learning.  Sean regularly represents Irish employers at EU education summits promoting work based learning and education.

Gretta has nine years Human Resources experience within the customer services  industry. Her most recent educational accomplishment has been the attainment of a BSC in Human Resource Strategy with DCU.

Steering Committee Assistant Chair of Retail Ireland Skillnet, Anita joined Heatons in early 2011 and holds the position of Group Training & Development Manager. Part of Anita’s  role is to design, develop and deliver a wide range of training programmes relevant to the needs of this progressive  company. By adopting a very ‘hands on approach’ she provides bespoke programmes which contribute to the strategic  direction of the company.

Michelle O Gorman, Kilkenny Group

Michelle is Group Area and Retail Operations Manager at the Kilkenny Group. Having joined the family-run business in 2005 as Deputy Store Manager at the company’s Killarney outlet, Michelle acquired the position of Group Area Manager in 2007 and today manages 11 of the Group’s 13 stores nationwide. Michelle is responsible for ensuring all her stores meet company targets as well as team development, strategy implementation and recruitment throughout the regional stores.

Karen joined Mothercare in June 2015 as HR Manager for the family owned business in Ireland. Karen jumped straight in by defining and then delivering the largest company-wide change initiative in the 24 year history of the company.  Has worked in HR for 10 years keeping a clear focus on promoting people and company development, driving organisational people strategy and engagement  across retail, IT and services sectors. Karen is a strong advocate for developing success through learning and people.

David Nally

Learning, Development & Communications Manager, Woodies

David joined Woodie’s in March 2015 where his role involves managing Training & Communications for the entire Woodies workforce. Prior to joining Woodie’s he spent 8 years at Three Ireland where his most recent role was as Central Operations Manager, managing a cross-functional team which was responsible for the day-to-day operations of Three’s retail estate. He previously worked in various other roles at Three, including Channel Manager, Regional & Store Management roles.

As HR Manager for BWG Foods part of Mary’s role is to identify, recommend and develop training & development solutions to franchisees within SPAR, EUROSPAR, MACE and XL. She worked in both the semi state sector and distribution sector before joining BWG Foods in 2003. Mary has strongly promoted Retail Ireland Skillnet throughout the BWG Foods retail estate and, through this mechanism she has received a resounding response from retailers towards the development of their people.

Trevor is the Learning & Development business partner with Eason and has worked in training and development for over 17 years. Trevor is responsible for the design, delivery and evaluation of training to all levels within the Eason organisation. He has worked extensively in the area of online learning / e-learning over the last 4 years, implementing an effective e-learning strategy for Eason, including design of bespoke online learning programmes treating induction, Health & Safety and courseware for Level 5 / NVQ-3 Certificate in Retail Operations through Retail Ireland Skillnet.

Cathy has over 25 years’ experience in the area of Human Resources within the Retail, Telecommunications and Manufacturing sectors. She joined Triode Newhill Management Services (TNMS), a subsidiary of BWG, in 2014 where her role is to manage and develop the HR function within this dynamic Company. Cathy believes that the training courses provided by Retail Ireland Skillnet are a terrific opportunity to develop great talent within the TNMS business enhancing business growth and success.

Nuala’s role as Resource Manager for Tesco Ireland involves looking after the company’s internal development programmes and helping develop its employees’ careers. Nuala has worked in retail for 22 years having first began her career with Quinnsworth before moving to Tesco in 1997 where she has since held a wide variety of roles with the company, from retail operations to personnel. With a diploma in Business Studies, Nuala values the fact that her company affords its employees such diverse career development opportunities through bodies such as Retail Ireland Skillnet.

 Irene Canavan

 Retail Training Consultant

Irene brings almost 10 years of HR consultancy experience and over 20 of practical industry based human resources expertise, culminating in her appointment as Group Human Resources and Training Director of Arnotts Limited. She currently provides full HR support to small and mid-sized companies by; building a human resources infrastructure, ensuring compliance of personnel files, designing employee handbooks, drafting job descriptions and improving employer/employee relations. Irene is skilled in the area of redundancy and dismissal and also advises companies who are considering restructuring or downsizing, providing counsel and guidance to junior and senior level management. She sits as an external member on the interview boards and recruitment and selection committees of large national concerns.

Margaret Wilson is a Qualified Personal & Executive Coach, Mentor, Trainer and Business Consultant. Currently Director of Adesse Ltd, she has gained a wealth of management experience over a thirty year span working for Multi National and Irish organisations. Margaret has a proven track record as a Retail Operational Manager and during her Career, she has had the opportunity to facilitate many strategic changes, which improved the overall operational efficiency of a number of individual businesses. Throughout her career one key strength has been people development. Margaret has successfully built many retail teams and gained huge personal satisfaction from mentoring, coaching and developing people to reach their full potential. Margaret has worked with Retail Ireland Skillnet for the past four years as a training consultant and coach.

 Oran Doherty

 Regional Skills Forum Manager,
Department of Education and Skills

Oran Doherty was appointed the Regional Skills Forum Manager for the north west of Ireland in 2016. Covering the counties of Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim, Oran promotes collaboration between industry and education / training providers. Oran has considerable experience and expertise in the design and delivery of work based learning (WBL) programmes. WBL programmes involve education and training bodies collaborating with external employer organisations to design and deliver programmes of study to meet the needs of industry. He is currently completing a Doctorate in the area of WBL partnerships and is due to complete this research in 2017. Oran works closely with Retail Ireland Skillnet providing a wide range of services to employers in the retail sector.

Patricia

 Patricia Doherty

Head of Department of Business Studies,
Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LyIT)

Head of Department of Business Stydies in Letterkenny Institute of Technology since 2013, Patricia has held similar roles in the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown and the Institute of Technology Sligo. Patricia has significant experience in developing and managing part-time and WBL programmes. She has a Bachelor of Business Honours Degree, an MSc in Computing and Information Systems and an MSc in Lifelong Learning. Since Joining LyIT Patricia has worked closely with Retail Ireland Skillnet in developing and managing training programmes.
